A sigh rumbled past twin tiers of alabaster as Nathan stared at the building in front of him. It loomed over the streets, a dark shadow against a dark grey sky. Nathan always thought it was weird that the night sky would sometimes look bright in the winter time. He knew it was just light reflecting off of the clouds. But in a way, it almost mimicked a sunny sky in terms of brightness. That’s what he told himself. The yellow lights from the street lamps bathed the parking lot in shades of dirty yellow light. It was it was there, at the edge of the light, that beast lay. And even now, the Orchid was open at this time of night. He knew it was getting close to last call. Somewhere in the streets that lay further into the city, a police siren wailed into the night.
He was leaning against a stop sign, his shoulder pressed hard against the metal pole holding up the sign. He turned slightly as light teased against his leather jacket. Murder. Death. Kill. Those three words were painted over and over on his right sleeve. On the back of his jacket, a large Bride of Frankenstein patch had been sewn into the black leather. It was his standard jacket; the one that he usually wore when he was out on business. He was rolling that concept over in his mind. Was this business, or was this pleasure? In the end, it didn’t matter. Heavy biker boots scraped against the ground as he adjusted his weight. His hair had been slick back, with one dark lock threatening to fall into his face. The sides of his head were shaved, while the hair on top remained long. It was a style that he had back in the all or nothing days, his days in the sun.
Fairchild reached into his pocket, fetching out a cigarette and a zippo lighter. Fingerless, skeletal gloves clung to his pale hands. Slender digits placed the cigarette against his mouth. Heavy lids fell over his icy cold gaze. The beast savored the taste that had been smeared into the smooth surface of the cigarette. He had not noticed the lipstick that had been stamped into the end. But that mattered little to Fairchild. Nathan tilted his head forward as his fingers flicked against the screw in the zippo. With a loud click, the zippo’s flame came to light. Shadows darkened on his features for a moment as the flame highlighted his features. His eyes gleamed as he His thumb slid down the smooth side of the zippo, teasing against the lip of the edge. The cigarette hung from his mouth as he took a long drag, the ember coming to life as he did so. Blue grey smoke slowly rolled out of his mouth.
Piercing blues snapped open as he looked toward the door to the building. Any time now.
That was, of course, if Esther was the type of woman to actually get her own car. He couldn’t tell. Knowing her, she would probably have her help fetch the car for her. If the latter was the case, then it would either be a very interesting or very boring night. He pushed his head back as he continued to stare at the building. Another drag was given to the cigarette as that sinister grin started to tease against his lips.

Fairchild's wait is a long one. Last call passes, closing time comes. They don't have to go home but they can't stay here. Shepherded by the bouncers and hostesses, the people exodus the Orchid under its mistress's auspicious eye. The lights go out and the building locks down for the night's cleanup and refreshing for the next night's work. Eventually, though, even Mitchell leaves, heading swiftly for his car, eager for his bed. Esther is the last to leave, though it is still moderately early for the lady of the Orchid. Her heels click along the sidewalk as she makes her way to her car, the automobile already chirping lovingly at her arrival. But she felt it, the beast slithering somewhere in the cold and she exhales, though no silvery cloud comes from her cold breath. She had tangled with that beast, both wrathfully and lustfully, far too often for it to be a stranger to her. Resuming her walk towards her car, the sultry Daeva speaks as coldly as the air that surrounds her as she passes near him without stopping. "What are you doing here, Fairchild?" |

Nathan smiled just beyond the edges of the light. The soft click and clack of her heels heralded the vixens entrance. Nathan tilted his head slightly, his eyes narrowing as he watched her move through the night. He studied each slender strut. Fairchild took a slow drag of his second cigarette. The ember came to life, highlighting his features in hints of dark orange. His eyes gleamed though, reflecting what little light they were given. His voice, soft and sing song was the response to the cold shoulder that Esther was currently giving him. “Maybe you’ll wanna give me kisses sweet, but only for one night and no repeat. And maybe you’ll go away and never call. And a taste of honey’s worse than none at all.”
Twin columns of smoke escaped between his mouth, seeping upward into the night. Nathan started to lean forward, his gaze watching her as she started to move by him. The air hung heavy with the scent of sweet promise. His eyes narrowed as his lungs took in Esther’s perfume. “I wanted to talk. I’m not suppose to enter the Orchid so...here we are.” Nathan finally pushed himself out of the shadows, his form straightening as if he was in front of a boardroom. The motion itself was burned into his actions, a lifetime of movements done out of pure habit and circumstance.
Nathan stopped, turning slowly to face her. There was a slight tilt of his head, making sure that the shadows on his form darkened. But it was there, that sinister smile. He took in another breath as those piercing hues scanned over her form. “Or maaaaybe, go for a ride.” Nathan raised an eyebrow slowly, his eyes now locking on her face. He was trying to see through that cold exterior, trying to look for any sign of whatever emotion bubbled up underneath the cold facade.

Esther stands, regarding the animal across from her, slinking in the dark, in the shadows, like the snake he'd always been.
//And yet you cared for him. You were the Red to his Wolf. Keep him in check. Did you love him? Maybe even like him?//
She positively strangles the inner voice. "You want me to get into a car with you?" she posits, "Fat chance...unless I'm doing the driving."
She moves at that, making her way to her car, the vehicle chirping at her again like a horse straining at its lead. Any conversation with Nathaniel Fairchild should not happen in the open.

That sinister grin remained painted on his features as she spoke. Nathan couldn’t help but huff in an almost comical manner. He wasn’t that bad of a driver! In fact, compared to most, Nathan thought he was actually really good. Fairchild started to slowly stalk behind Esther, his gaze quickly scanning the area around them before it fell back to her curved figure. Fairchild went to the right as he started to approach the car.
The beast mused about the car in front of him. His left hand reached outward as he let his fingers drag along the smooth exterior of the car. His gaze settled on Esther as he continued to drag his hand across the exterior. He wasn’t a fan of most modern cars. They looked like electric razors, and also were mostly made out of plastic. Nathan finally came to a stop on the passenger’s side. He craned his head, his eyes narrowing as he did so. “So where to, Essssther?” asked the beast.
While it was smart to have most conversations with Nathan in quiet, there was the drawback to logic. Usually those conversations would happen in confined small spaces. And being around Fairchild in confined area was always a bad idea.

Esther opens up the doors of the Audi sportscar, slipping inside it as silkily as sliding down atop a lover. "I figure I know a place or three," she replies, "And if you screw with me while I'm driving, I will kick your ass out into the street and road rash that lovely jacket of yours." Cold drips from her wine-dark lips.
The car roars to life and she straps herself in, looking at Fairchild expectantly.

Nathan didn’t wait to get in. Nathan started to look around again, a frown etching itself upon his face for a moment as the beast slid into the foreign made car. The seat squeaked in protest as the sudden influx of weight on it. Nathan leaned back, resting his head against the back of the seat. He smirked, his blue gaze now slowly sliding toward Esther’s figure. “Oh? What would make you think that I would do that, Esther?” Whatever idea to screw with Esther immediately escaped his mind. Fairchild went even so far as the buckle his seat belt. The car continued to breath as more gas was fed into the engine.
He didn’t wait for the answer to his first question. They both knew that he was being snarky. “So hows...business?” asked Nathan. It was a dull question to him, for he already knew the answer. Her club was becoming one of the well known spots to be seen at. Both Kindred and kine. From what he had seen, several local politicians and well to do’s had been seen at her club. Even politicians from several larger cities like Indianapolis, Chicago and Cincinnati. He lifted his right hand, pressing his knuckles against the cold surface of the window. A bit of air rumbled from between tiers of alabaster as his cold gaze settled on her figure. “Looks like the old political monster known as Esther is back. I can’t help but wonder how many have come back on bended knee.” There was a soft growl at the end of the sentence as it escaped from Nathan’s mouth.

"Just what you'd expect:" Esther replies matter-of-factly, "All of them." Indeed her establishment offers a myriad of atmospheres to cater to those whims and wishes of a wide spectrum of patrons. Elegance, whimsy, decadence, whatever you can think of. Why shouldn't politicians and the social elite favor her place? Who else knows the desires of humankind better than a Daeva?
The Audi roars as she pulls out of downtown Muncie and onto the the interstate, headed north, though not towards her house. "So. You wanted to talk. Talk," she tells the man in the seat next to her.

Nathan took note of the changing environment. Lights past by as the Audi started to roar onto the interstate, heading north toward Gas City. Nathan’s fingers roamed to the buttons on the stereo. He flipped through several stations, finally coming to a stop on an oldies station. Softly, the sound of The Drifter’s “There Goes My Baby” echoed into the car. Nathan couldn’t help but smile. The actual smile that crept across his face was something genuine, unlike the twisted mask that he wore when he dealt with most kindred.
Nathan tilted his head as he looked out the window, his cold gaze narrowing as he did so. The crane of his neck revealed his alabaster throat. He shifted his weight again, the chair squeaking as he did so. Fingers lightly tapped against the window. “Was it a smart idea to put yourself out there again? In the strongest Invictus domain in the nation...where almost all the kindred disappeared or ran to the wind.” said Nathan flatly, his voice dipping as he thought about it. Nathan didn’t view the Villain’s as Invictus. They had class, power; all the things that Invictus claimed to have.
“I know your are strong, and they’ll be in debt to you once they start to get on the rebound. But...what are you thinking?” he asked softly, his fingers lightly tapping against the window.

"Believe it or not, I didn't plan this," Esther replies to Fairchild's quiery, utterly surprising herself by doing so. "I didn't come back to entrench myself in Kindred society again. I came back because..."
She lets it hang for a long few moments, debating the wisdom of revealing such vital information to the Nosferatu or not. She breathes, cold air coursing in and out between wine-dark lips.
"I came back because I came back, when I heard that the state had gone dark and knew it was safe. Well, at least safe from Protoculus and Porter. I needed something to do for a while and I missed my business. I didn't intend to get involved with the Villains, nor do I intend on staying here for the next century."
She throws the car into the next gear, the machine growling beneath her. Eventually, she makes her round, pulling into a park still brightly-lit with Christmas lights, parking the car and shutting off the purring engine.
"I know what I am. And I know that Sebastian recognizes it as much as I do. I am damned, the best at what I do, and business is good."

Nathan watched with curosity as the car pulled into the old park. The dark trees where lit in shades of red and purple, changing to green and blue. Toward the front of the park, most of the lights remained white. Shadows were stretched and pulled, distorting in the light of the Christmas lights. Fairchild smirked, raising an eyebrow slightly as the car lurched to a stop. With a twist of the keys, the engine to the Audi died. The power that went to the radio died as well, cutting off the soundtrack to their nocturnal trip. Nathan started to speak, his voice rumbling from between tiers of marble. "Sebastian..."
Nathan thought about what he should say next. Of course, this would probably get back to the Prince. "...I don't know what to think of him. I mean, he decided to come to you and Sisco to help him. But then some of the other choices...He's better than the lot he claims to run with. But...Heh. I don't know." Nathan's cold gaze turned slowly to lock on Esther's figure. He took note of how the light teased against her figure, filtering in from the window. His lower jaw jutted out for a moment as he turned back toward the window. "I guess I understand but...still. I thought you would be more protected. Especially if you are going to be at the center of his little kingdom."
His knuckles lightly drummed against the window. Had Nathan been watching her? He exhaled loudly, his eyes narrowing as they studied the lights that lay just behond the car. Nathan bit down slightly on his lower lip. "I've seen some of the kindred so far in Muncie..." Fairchild's silence was all he needed to say about that. Nathan's left hand reached upward, running through his dark locks.

"The people who protected me, who took on oaths to save my unlife when Porter would have killed, who gave me the gift of their family and their power...they are gone. Whisked away to the wind or death by whatever else has ravaged our kind." Is that sadness in Esther's voice?
"I can take better care of myself now than I could then, they made certain of that, though," she adds, her hands smoothing over her skirt. She can feel Nathan's eyes graze over her form and remembers when it caused her heat, a particular night after hours in the Orchid coming unbidden to her mind.
"My world is the center because I run the largest hunting ground in the city. As long as bodies don't come back to my door, I keep everyone supplied in easy blood." Esther leans her head back against the headrest of her seat and sighs softly again. "Also, Sebastian now has a substantial financial interest in the Orchid so he has all the motivation to keep the business out of trouble and negative light."
She falls silent again before turning her face to look at Nathaniel fully. Long-lashed dark brown eyes seem black in the dark, the starlight of the Christmas lights reflected in the dark orbs. Her mouth is wine-dark and supple, the voice still velvety even if cold.
"Why are you here, Wolf?"

Baited breath escaped from between his lips as she turned fully towards him. His gaze narrowed to twin slits of azure as he tilted his head to the side. He almost looked feral when he did that, his movements more animalistic. It was strange to watch the creature in front of her, jumping from practiced high class mimicry to pure bestial actions. She was right. She was becoming the most now needed Kindred in the city. That was of course, except when it came to Nathan. He didn’t need to rely on her to get him his food, unlike the fat predators of the covenants.
He licked his lips, pulling back slightly. His eyes gleamed for a moment, reflecting what little light they were given in the small car. Why was Nathan here? In his mind, it made sense why he could come back to this area. He was on the lam. The last place many would look for him would be here. And it was the perfect spot to slowly start to build his machinations for revenge. In the end, that’s all he wanted. Blood for blood, and by the gallon.
His voice dipped as his eyes started to scan over her form. They locked on her throat, in the small nook where her tender throat met her collar bone. He took in a deep breath, tilting his head forward slightly. “...tonight? You.” he hissed softly. He lifted his head, almost taking on a noble look as he did so. A few dark locks of hair fell against his features, covering his left eye. “I was going to give you a way to contact me. No burner phone. No lackies. Straight to the source. Who knows, you could find someone who would pay dearly for that information in this society of knaves” he crooned out as his gaze now fixed itself on the lights just beyond the car.
He couldn’t help but smile. For a moment, he felt the familiar tug of his real face pull on the handsome mask that he kept up. He closed his eyes, focusing on keeping up that royal facade.

"If Sebastian wanted to know where you were, he'd just set his dogs to track you," Esther pointed out.
"And yet you want me to be able to find you?" The Daeva arched an eyebrow at him. "Why? Are you missing our little trysts, Nathaniel?" she then asked, that silky purr to her voice. She seemed more like her old self than the angry, cold bitch she was when he came to the Orchid.
Oh, make no mistake, she was still an angry, cold bitch, but it was as though she had fashioned a new outfit for herself to cover it, made of silk and satin and cool brocade. The reflections of the lights caught in her dark hair and glowed like fairy kisses along her soft skin as she met Fairchild's bestial smile with the honey and cream one of her own.
One cannot deny their past, how entangled she and this creature had been in years gone by. The violence, the lust, the blood. What would this new chapter be now?

"I think you are reading to much into it, Esssther. I've seen first hand how Sebastian hunts. Hehe. He would probably get one of his lackies to do it. Or were you hoping to start that up again?" said Nathan back to her. Another soft breath was given as his fingersteased against the cold surface of the window. He took note how his fingers did not fog up the class, which would have been the case if warm blood was running through his veins. Fairchild took note on how she used his first name. The sound was intoxicating in nature. But Nathan also knew what it might have meant. She is toying with you, tugging on heart strings to manipulate you. His hand lifted to push his hair back once more, finally setting it in place as he growled out in annoyance.
"No. You need that number because you are a girl who knows how to solve problems. Or at least, that's what you want to set it up as. You trade out information, contact people you know..whatever..to pump boons out of people. Between you and Sisco, you'll make sure Sebastian's machine runs smoothly." stated Nathan. While he didn't know if she would do that, he currently thought that was what she was in the perfect posistion to be in. Everyone needed a middle man, especially one who was diplomatic and cold blooded when the heat was turned on. "Or not."
Nathan licked his lips, that serpentine muscles grazed against tiers of marble. Nathan was making sure the game was set in his favor now while the time was still right. Soon, more kindred would start to move into the area. And thats when that edge would pay in dividends. His icy stare slowly went back to Esther's figure. He took note of that toying smile that crept across bee stung lips. Another soft bite of his lower lip was given. "On top of that...you might need me sometime."
