“Sometimes.” He said back softly. Nathan’s thumb grazed against his high cheek bone again, as he continued to speak. “…It helps.” Nathan raised his left hand slightly, one of his fingers making a circular motion as he did so. What the hell did that even me? And what could a man in his situation do? He couldn’t drink anymore, or at least in a manner that best suited his nocturnal needs. His thumb started to raise slightly as he tilted his hand toward his hand. The car roared to life underneath them, the vibrations slithering through the car.
His icy gaze met her glance as she looked to him. Nathan swallowed, his gaze falling to her throat. He had to force himself to look at her face. “So am I still not allowed in the Orchid?” asked Nathan. While he was never officially kicked out of the establishment, his presence was unwanted. Fairchild had come to a conclusion a long time ago though. His presence was unwanted around most kindred. And he wouldn’t have it any other way. Because in that bit of emotion, he found what they truly were. They were afraid of him.
Nathan pressed his right elbow into the door, using it to prop his head up as he watched the vixen across from him. He watched her, studying how she spoke. He was burning the image into his mind.

Esther regarded Fairchild with stillness for a long time, such as could be called uncomfortable. Her expression never changed, her brown eyes never blinked. She just...looked at him.
"Make a mess, cause me trouble, make life hard for me, and I will say not a word when Sebastian and Malcolm decide to skin you for jerky for the former's dogs. This is what I have left, Nathaniel. You will not take it from me. You think you are dangerous when you have nothing left...?"
She left the sentence to dangle as she slipped her seatbelt on.

Nathan smirked as she spoke. “I’ll take that as a no.” He couldn’t help but roll his eyes as he tore his gaze away from her. What could have almost been described as a groan escaped from his features. He brought his hand up to press against his forehead. Slowly, he extended the digits so that they could run through those dark, ebon locks. He turned his gaze out toward the window. Well, at least that answered that question for him.
“If. It’s not when, but if. I can take those fuckers; but I would put money on it that they’ll be after each others throats before they turn their attention to me. You know how those Vickies are with their titles and pride.” Said Nathan flatly back to Esther. She had taken the fun out of this conversation that was for sure. If Esther thought she had seen Nathan with nothing left to lose, she was wrong. But those glory days were far behind the beast in front of her. Her statement was also predicated on the fact that Sebastian would still have his dogs. Damn, he could go for a drink right now.
“if I really wanted to ruin the Orchid, I would have done it by now.”

"And I would have cut out your heart, slit your throat, and then your face," Esther replies without missing a beat as she looks at Nathan fearlessly.
"Just like you did me."

Just like you did me...
That struck Nathan, a frown etching itself upon his features. He had to bite back the growl that was starting to rumble from his throat. Muscles tightened in his arms as his right hand started to ball into a fist. A soft pop could be heard as teeth ground against each other in his mouth. “Hmph. I bet you would. What do you mean by that?” he asked.
He exhaled loudly, already knowing what he was asking for. He looked at her out of the corner of his eyes. The frown that had scribbled itself on his features caused shadows to dark on his alabaster figure. Was this the part where she kicked him out of the car? He was thinking that would be the next part after this little play. Fairchild turned his gaze to his fist, noting how even as he kept his fist in a white knuckle embrace, it almost looked normal due to how pale he looked.

"Are you telling me that you don't remember?" Esther asked, her voice strangely mild. She regarded him silently once more for a long moment. Then she blinked, turning to face forward once again. The perfume spilled from her hair again as it tumbled over her shoulder.
"Well then..." Esther exhaled, throwing the car into gear and pulling out along the path and out of the lit park.
"Don't worry. I'll remember for the both of us." The Daeva drove along the roads, a more leisurely pace than before.
"Why don't we just leave it at: yes, you can come to the Orchid as long as you on your best behavior and the most charming man you can be. Remember him? The one that came to my Christmas party seven years ago and made the Councilman's wife blush with compliments?"

“. . . no, I wasn’t saying that. What you remember is probably different than what really happened.” He hissed out in annoyance to the woman. The beast almost took on a puppet like appearance. He turned his head slowly, almost mimicking a ventriloquist dummy. He opened his mouth slightly, a bit of air rumbled from long dead lungs. Even now, Esther’s perfume hung heavy in the air.
The movement of the car pushed Nathan a bit harder into his seat as ivory caps started to bite down upon his lower lip. It could have been a nervous tick, or just a movement that was remembered from a life long ago. He huffed, turning his gaze back toward the window. “Hm. Yeah. I remember. Want to keep talking to me like I’m a child?” Fairchild chuckled as he started to lean into the door. He stopped, only to shift his weight in his seat. The last thing he should be doing is leaning against the door while Esther was driving. She could get a bit worked up.

"No, not a child. But it is best for me to be clear," Esther replied as she made her way through the darkened suburban streets of north Muncie.
"Oh, I remember. There things I don't forget. Being cut like that..." A growl blossomed in her chest, her beast clawing at the cage of her ribs. She swallowed it down and her fangs back with considerable effort.
//Four times. Too many times.//
"That I do not forget. But...in the interest of getting on with unlife, I will not mention it again." She glanced at Fairchild out the corner of her eyes, her smile all sweet and cream.
"Truce?"

“Truce. But my...uh...Montesori is a bit rusty. Do you mean truce or Go fuck yourself, I’m going to slam us both into oncoming traffic.” Nathan tilted his head slightly, raising his eyebrows as if he had just let it slip. Nathan grabbed the seat belt as he spoke, turning to face her. He tugged on it, causing it to click into place as he watched her.
“That’s a bit blunt for ...that. But you know what they say...” he let his words trail off. He stretched his legs, causing his heavy boots to dig into the floor panel of the car. Nathan lifted his arm, placing his hands behind his head. In turn, the jacket opened up slightly to reveal the tight shirt underneath. “I figured you would be biding your time...like always.” His tongue rolled against the back of his teeth as he stated that. They both did that.

"And ruin my baby? Please!" Esther scoffed. "I don't destroy what's mine to destroy anyone else. That is the very definition of a Sisyphean task."
And just where the hell does he see traffic on the Muncie backroads in these early hours? The Daeva rolled her reyes to herself.
"And you...if I'd wanted to destroy you...I would have kept my mouth shut several years ago. So how about you make like Elsa and let it go?" The smile that she gave him was definitely a "fuck you" one, just without the middle finger extended.

“Let it go? Yeah, that’s funny coming from the woman who had just thrown old history in my face.” Said Nathan. The beast shook his head in annoyance as she spoke. His left hand came up, rubbing against his jaw. He let his fingers drag against his pale lip. It just show happened to be his middle finger. Of course, that was a response to the “fuck you” grin that Esther was currently giving him. Nathan couldn’t help but smile as he looked to her.
He slowly clapped his hands, his eyes narrowing as he did so. “Congratulations, Esther. It seems like I’ve rubbed off on you in more ways than one. You clearly have been putting that talent to good use.” He smirked, as his eyes gazed over her figure once more. He stopped, shaking his head for a second. “And Sisyphean? Wow, really going to the well on that one. Then again, I always knew you had a way at using your tongue.”

"Don't make my cunning linguistics out to be some surprising achievement. Not all of us derive our syntax and phrasology from vintage song lyrics," Esther replied. He knew full well just how proficient she was with her tongue - literally, verbally, and orally. So she further just ignored him and kept on driving, not entirely sure where she was going but, of course, she ended up right back downtown, pulling into her space at the Orchid as comfortably as you please.
"I need a drink and a smoke," she murmured to herself, almost as though the Haunt wasn't sitting next to her.

Nathan’s fingers idly tapped at the lock as she pulled into her parking spot. “Oh, no, no, no. But then again, I don’t hear anyone dropping Sisyphean in everyday conversation.” Growled the beast to the vixen. If she thought he was bad now, she could have seen him when he first dragged himself out of the water. Musicals had really thrown Nathan for a spin. Fairchild responded to the first comment in a playful tone “Heh, and here I thought women loved it when a guy sang to them.” With a soft pop, his fingers pulled on the lock. He turned slowly, his right hand reaching down to unfasten his safety belt.
“Yeah, I know a place.” Said Fairchild as he snapped the safety belt out of it’s lock. It rolled against his body, smacking against the side of the car. He leaned forward, starting to open the door so that he could step out. With a push, he was greeted by the cold caress of the night air. He closed his eyes for a moment, savoring that old embrace. But still, the creature lingered as he bent down slightly, his gaze locking on Esther’s face as a grin started to move across his features.

Esther exhaled a close-lipped sigh as Fairchild bent down to look at her again.
"So do I," she replied, exiting the car and heading for the side door of the Orchid. Her hips swayed with a natural cadence, none of that forced fierceness that so many women these days allowed Tyra Banks to convince them that they needed to strive for. Esther's fierce grace was a natural force, one of nature.
She didn't wait to see if Fairchild followed; if he was done for the night, then he was done. She still wanted that drink and smoke.
