Crimson Vision: Special Delivery

The night was dark and full of terrors, but the pizza had to be delivered.  It should have been a quick delivery.

The delivery guy pulled up in a rusted-out hatchback.  His uniform fit badly and he hadn't shaved in a week.  He was slinging dough to make some dough.  For a while, he told people he was working to pay his way through school.  Now he just worked to pay the bills.  He had quit school, but with no money and no prospects, he just couldn't quit Muncie.

He hated the place.  He hated delivering pizza to the college crowd.  They were always drunk, or stoned, or both.  They almost never tipped.  And they were just so damn...stupid.  Friday night had a way of doing that to people. 

He really didn't blame them.  If he had had the night off, he would have spent his money on something to drink, or smoke, or both.  He really just hated having to work on a Friday night.  And he hated delivering to the dorms.

There were a bunch of people standing outside the doors of the complex.  They were smoking, talking, hanging out, whatever.  No one paid any attention to him.  He looked around for a moment, trying to find the person who ordered the pizza.  He sighed.

"Who ordered the pizza?" he asked, though everyone ignored him.  He asked a second time, louder.

There was a whistle from around the corner to the left.  The delivery guy looked and saw a shadowy figure there.  He rolled his eyes and sighed again.  He just wanted to make the delivery and get the hell back to the restaurant.  He had other deliveries to make.  He really didn't want to have to deal with some emo-wanna-be.  He shook his head and moved into the shadows.  He never saw what hit him...

A few minutes later, Jean stepped out of the shadows.  He leafed through the cash the delivery guy had been carrying with one hand and balanced a hot pizza in the other.  He considered how long it would take for the kid to come to.  He might have over-done it this time, taking more than was necessary and more than enough to keep the kid down permanently.  He thought about leaving some money in the kids pocket, but Jean needed every dollar right now.  Besides, Jean was strong enough to take whatever he wanted from the guy.  He figured he deserved to keep it.  

Jean licked a drop of blood from his lips and smiled at the darkness.
