Dear Friends,
I hope you are doing well as you read this. I am typing this up as a short little message to all members of the forum. This is not a warning, it is a simple statement that I think needs to be put out there. I’ve seen how forum groups can degrade, friendships become bitter, and tight knit groups form that stick mainly to themselves. This is just a passing message, something I hope everyone will consider and remember, and ultimately bring about some good.
Many of us have been in various groups and organizations that others of us do not like. We have had friends that don’t get along and we have been in groups that cause rifts between friends. Sadly, it is one of the effects that games of this nature can have on the players; be the players competitive or casual.
What I want to bring up specifically, in this message, is the organization known as the Minds Eye Society (formally the Camarilla) and One World By Night. Our group encompasses active players and players who parted ways with the organizations. There are some of us that will sing its praises and speak of it highly, there are some of us that will curse it and slander it. Some of us have had great experiences, some of us have had absolutely horrid ones.
The members of our group and our fellow friends make up both sides. This could cause a bit of havoc and concern, especially given that we have our own play styles. The last thing I want to happen in this forum is a rift to open between our group and cause it to become two different groups under one roof. Once a rift like that opens it is almost impossible to heal and close, and that won’t be good for anyone. What I am asking people to do is be honest, but do not praise or condemn either way.
If you had a great time and certain people are awesome? That is great! Please don’t bad mouth people who left.
If you had a horrible time and certain people were horrible? I’m sorry you had that experience! Please don’t bad mouth people who are still in it.
We are all friends here and we don’t need to hurt one another’s feelings, we don’t need to stomp all over our friends current hobbies, we don’t need to convince them they were wrong for this or that, and we don’t need to tell them they are completely wrong one way or another with their opinions.
What we need to do is stay friends!
If there is someone on this board that you had an issue with in the past, you don’t need to even let that issue go. It wouldn’t hurt to say hi to them though, to role play with them, or even just go balls to the walls and say “What you doing Fooooo’”! We play these games to tell a story with characters, but we also play these games for social interaction, making friends, meeting new people, and most of all having fun.
As long as that person didn’t kill a family member, belittle you in public and humiliate you, or do something that physically or mentally harmed you as the player … it should all be water under the bridge. You don’t have to bury the rivalry, you don’t need to forget how it made you feel, but you do need to give it another chance. Who knows, maybe they have changed or maybe they are the same exact person. We are here for fun though and sometimes fun comes from unexpected places.
We are all friends, should be friends, and need to continue being friends. We all have different tastes, preferences, and life styles here … and that is the spice of life. Why not try a few new ones?
Sincerely, Lucas
