Sitting at a table by himself Alejandro surveys the chess set laid out before him. The pieces placed about the board in a way that suggested a game that was in progress, the calculating kindred's eyes took in the carefully hand crafted pieces carved in ebony and ivory. For a moment Moreno reached out to lift up one of the ivory knights across the table from him and examined its form and function in a way that would suggest that deeper knowledge could be gleaned from its carefully polished surface. There was something calming about the whole exercise to him, something about the simple game that grounded him firmly in the here and now while facilitating the access of the more difficult to reach places of his mind.

The lights were drawn low in the lounge, causing shadows to remain long and distorted. Here and there, candles lit a few of the tables that were empty. The decor of the building just screamed nobility, so in turn it could easily be guess that the Unconquered were behind this fascinating structure. Many of the heavy shelves had back lighting, highlighting bottles of Lacryma and books. Several large windows looked out on Muncie proper, which was lit in shades of yellow and white. Cars raced along snow banked streets as the kine went to and fro.
Moreno could hear the foot steps of the beast before he even entered the room. The sounds of this monster broke through the silence that had dominated the shadow’s current sanctum. Dark locks of hair had been pulled up and out of his face, slicked back by gel. The sides and back of his head had been shaved in a 20’s undercut style. A black leather jacket clung to his figure as his heavy biker boots clacked against the hardwood floor. A smile crept across his nordic features. His piercing gaze slowly scanned the room around him. A black shirt under the jacket clung to his athletic figure. He was currently wearing black jeans as well.
Nathan’s hand dragged against the back of a chair as he moved into the main room. His icy blue gaze fell upon Moreno. He smirked, trying to refrain from the small chuckle that escaped past his lips.
“This place is really jumpin’...”

Alejandro ignores the playful quip of the other kindred as he looks slowly up from the ivory knight which had previously held his attention.
"Tell me Fairchild, what sacrifices would you find acceptable if you were pressed to capture your opponent's knight? At what point would the cost of that lone knight in ivory be too much for you to bear? At what cost is the profit no longer worth your investment?"
His eyes burn with the question, his voice is cold and measured but is that rage just below the surface or something else?

“Well, friend.” stated Nathan. He looked to the right as he thought about what he would do. Of course, in that situation he would go out of his way to destroy the knight. Then burn down the castle and board. And then the town. His mouth was pulled into a straight line as he started to slowly walk toward the window. Muncie was laid out in front of him, his gaze slowly sliding over the dark buildings that resided just beyond the window.
“I would ask what factors you have that are playing into this. Is it an even playing field, do you have numbers on your side. Can you reach your goal by going around the knight. In the end, though, I would go with equal to or double.” he tilted his head slightly, his gaze narrowing as he did so.
“After that, your forces could be applied better in just going to the heart of the matter instead of the knight.”

Alejandro watches Nathan go to the window and listens to his words before responding setting the piece back onto the board in front of him.
"Do you find all of your answers out there in that night sky Fairchild or is sitting down at this board truly such a scarring prospect to you?" Underneath the table Moreno kicks out the opposite chair in an innocuous invitation.
"While some things are difficult for me yet to recall I still remember quite clearly how our last game ended..."

“It actually...uh, helps clear my head.” said Nathan as he turned toward the shadow. He lifted his right hand, extending his thumb as he pointed toward the sky behind him. Fairchild looked to the chair that Moreno had kicked out. He couldn’t help but smirk. Fairchild looked down at the game that had been set up in front of him. Fairchild tilted his head slightly to the side as his foot edged out to hook against one of the leg’s of the chair.
He pulled it further back, having a seat across from the shadow. His eyes gleamed as he turned his gaze toward the man in front of him. He lifted his hand to his mouth, his fingers pressing against the side of his cheek before he dragged it away from his features. “Yeah, yeah, yeah. I remember.” said Nathan in annoyance.
“Don’t worry. It’ll come in time. And then, it’ll knock ya off your feet.” Nathan motioned toward Moreno to start as he leaned back into his seat.

Soft steps click along the floor of the Crassus lounge, heralding the Harpy's entrance. Clad sumptuously and sensuously yet surprisingly sensibly as always, Esther makes her way into the lounge, picking a sumptuous leather booth for herself, bypassing the gentlemen with a nod of acknowledgement. As soon as she sits, she draws out a fragrant cigarette, lighting it and drawing deeply. She holds it in a second before letting the smoke pour from between parted wine-dark lips to rise and wreathe her dark head like a misty halo.

Nathan looked down at the chess board, his blue gaze narrowing as he took in the pieces that had been set up. The light from beyond the window fell against his features, highlighting his milky white flesh. He raised an eyebrow, feeling the presence of another beast in the area. A soft growl of annoyance rumbled into his mouth, before it was caught by Nathan. Twin hues of icy blue looked out of the corner of his eye as Esther moved into the room.
Fairchild turned slightly, facing the board and the new comer. He couldn’t help but tilt his head to the side as his eyes scanned over her figure. Nathan reached out, grabbing ahold of the ebony king. Nathan lift his gaze to Moreno, almost waiting for a response. He exhaled softly, noting the twin tails of smoke that escaped from Esther’s mouth. “This place bores me.” stated Nathan. Fairchild looked toward Esther, his head tilting forward slightly. In turn, this gave him an predatory look. It was a thing that Nathan had caught onto, something burned into his movements since his change.
“So....can I get a cig?” said Nathan

Esther turns her head ever so slightly at Nathan's address, a slender eyebrow arched. "Still out, Nathaniel?" she questions, though she withdraws a silver cigarette case from her reticule, snapping it open and holding it out. The presumption is, of course, that if Nathan wants a cigarette, he will have to come fetch it for himself.
"Monsieur Moreno," she greets the man's chess opponent politely with the sweet-as-a-viper smile.

“Yeah, I guess I just...go through ‘em so quickly.” he stated as he watched her. He raised an eyebrow, mimicking the look that she was giving him. He looked to her face, and then to her hand, and then back to her face. His mouth pulled into a tight line as he stood up, the floor underneath him creaking in protest as he did so. Shadows fell across his form as a madcap grin started to tug at the corners of his mouth. Nathan slowly crept toward Esther as he looked over his shoulder toward Moreno. “You smoke, Moreno?”
Nathan didn’t wait for a response as his form now hovered over Esther’s. That piercing blue gaze locked upon her face, noting how the light accented her figure. That grin remained on his lips as a single lock of hair threatened to fall against his milk white features. Instead of reaching for the cigarette from the case, he slowly reached down to grab the cigarette that was lit. He was careful that he didn’t touch the end, which burned with an orange light. He leaned forward, that smile growing larger as he did so. “Thanks, doll.” he hissed as he tugged the slender cigarette from her lips. It was with that, he slowly pulled it upward towards his mouth.

Esther's wine-dark lips release the cigarette as it is tugged from her mouth, that little pink tongue peeking out for a moment to rove the spot left absent on said lips. She says nothing, simply raises dark eyes to Fairchild's before setting the case in her lap once more.
Her lipstick print is on the cigarette, a perfect dark kiss around the end of the stick.

Nathan grinned, tilting his head to the side as those piercing blues locked upon her dark eyes. Nathan brought the cigarette up to his mouth. He placed the cigarette into his mouth, his lips pressing against the lipstick print. Nathan's chest rose as he took in a deep breath. He opened his lips slightly, letting twin trails of dark smoke roll past his mouth. He looked back toward Moreno, his eyes narrowing for a second. He started to lean forward, his hand reaching down to lightly tap against the case in her lap. He coulldn't help but hum to himself. It sounded like he was humming "Midnight, the Stars and You".
Fairchild straightened his back, taking another slow drag from the cigarette. He closed his eyes, savoring the candy coated aftertaste of her lips and the cigarette that was in his mouth. A rumbled growl was muffled as he started to pull the cigarette from his mouth. He chuckled, his raspy voice now escaped from his mouth. "Well, aren't we a bunch of chatty Cathy's,"

Moreno watched Esther and Nathan make a show of smoking and merely shook his head. Here it was they found themselves secluded from all but their own kind and still these two clung desperately to their old comforts and more than that courted something dangerous in their close proximity to fire. The older kindred was not wholly immune to Esther's charms though, however his hungers were quite different than the others in the room he suspected.
"Good evening Madame Harpy... and no thank you Mr. Fairchild, I can't quite see the point of it. You are ivory however, should you wish a game my friend, the move is yours..."
Alejandro looked up from the board at Esther.
"It strikes me as odd that I've seen so little covenant activity since I have awakened other than business of the Invictus. What do you make of that?" He posits the question openly.

"Simple. There are no covenants besides the Invictus. Not here anyway," Esther replied matter-of-factly, before drawing another cigarette from her case. She deftly lights her new cigarette with barely a flinch and then leans back in her seat, watching the two men with sharp, dark eyes.
